64 minutes — The high speed line through the Netherlands. In 1995 it was decided to build a high speed train infrastructure in the Netherlands. When construction works are finished trains should travel from Amsterdam to Antwerp, and vice versa, in about 64 minutes, saving more than one hour of traveling time. Shortening travel time from and towards the south is expected to have a tremendous impact on Dutch society. What is drawn on the map as a smooth sharp line through the landscape has in the field move of house, demolitions, constructions but also new employment as a result. How exactly does the pierced landscape look like now (2002) and how does the Dutch landscape presents itself from the – virtual – vantage point of the train?
